Clinical evidence
Meta-analyses of up to 15 RCTs and databases tracking 20+ RCTs show promising results for Sea buckthorn's therapeutic potential. Clinical trials indicate that oral supplementation with sea buckthorn oil can significantly reduce symptoms of atopic dermatitis, improve skin hydration, and reduce inflammation. Studies also demonstrate positive effects on lipid profiles, decreasing total cholesterol, LDL, and triglycerides, while increasing HDL. Furthermore, oral sea buckthorn oil has been shown to alleviate dry eye syndrome symptoms by improving tear film stability. While some research points to benefits in wound healing, radiation-induced skin damage, and gastric ulcers, more robust trials are needed to draw definitive conclusions in these areas.
