Kshudrapanasa (Kshudrapanasa (Lakucha, Likucha, Dahura, Kshudrabhadra))
Kshudrapanasa, known as Artocarpus lakoocha, is used in Ayurveda and Southeast Asia for its medicinal properties, including hepatoprotective, antioxidant, and antimicrobial effects.

Dosage
In mice studies, methanolic extract of *A. lakoocha* was administered orally at doses of 125, 250, or 500 mg/kg/day for 8 days. Another study administered *A. lakoocha* at 250-2000 mg/kg. For paracetamol-induced toxicity in rats, an ethanolic extract was used at doses of 250, 500, and 1000 mg/kg for 30 days. A traditional anthelmintic drug in Thailand is prepared from aqueous extraction of *Artocarpus lakoocha*.

Preparation methods
- Extract Preparation: Methanolic extract is prepared by macerating shade-dried and powdered fruits, then drying with a rotary evaporator under reduced pressure.
- Traditional Preparation: In traditional medicine, the wood is powdered and boiled in water for extraction.
- Oxyresveratrol Extraction: Heartwood is dried, ground, and macerated with 95% ethanol, followed by filtration and concentration under reduced pressure. For isolating oxyresveratrol, the powder is macerated with ethanol, filtered, and the solution is concentrated. The crude extract is dissolved in methylene chloride and fractionated using quick column chromatography with a gradient elution of methylene chloride and methanol.
- HPLC Analysis Preparation: 50 mg of extract is dissolved in 5 mL distilled water and 12 mL methanol, incubated for 5 minutes, followed by adding 6 mL distilled water and incubating again for 5 minutes.
Contraindications
- Mature fruit can cause indigestion and abdominal disturbances and is not good for the eyes. It is contraindicated in ascites and other digestive disorders.
- Can cause blood vitiation and bleeding disorders.
- It is considered non-aphrodisiac.
- Continuous intake in large quantities during indigestion can cause skin diseases.
- Intake of milk with Lakucha while exposed to heat can cause bleeding disorders.
- Intake of Lakucha fruit is prohibited while taking iron bhasma.
- Lakucha fruit with black gram soup is considered a bad food combination (Virudhahara).
Side effects
- The ripe fruit is considered to cause tridosha, impotency, loss of appetite, and blood complaints.
- Common side effects of some medications can include dizziness and nausea.
Interactions
- Some Ayurvedic herbs can interact with modern medicine. It is important to consult a doctor if taking this product along with other western (allopathic/ modern) medicines.
