Clinical evidence
Meta-analyses of up to 15 RCTs and databases tracking 20+ RCTs show robust evidence for topical capsaicin (high concentration) in reducing localized neuropathic pain, including Post-Herpetic Neuralgia, Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy, and HIV-associated neuropathy. Lower concentration topical capsaicin shows modest benefits for musculoskeletal pain. Oral capsaicinoids have demonstrated modest effects on increasing energy expenditure, fat oxidation, and appetite reduction for weight management, with some mixed results for functional dyspepsia.
