Clinical evidence
While clinical evidence specifically for Angelica archangelica as a stand-alone herb is somewhat limited, especially in large-scale randomized controlled trials, its root extract is a key ingredient in Iberogast, a proprietary herbal formulation extensively studied for functional dyspepsia and IBS. Meta-analyses and systematic reviews of Iberogast (containing A. archangelica) have demonstrated its efficacy in reducing symptoms of digestive disorders. Preclinical studies suggest anxiolytic, sedative, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial properties, but these effects are not yet confirmed in large-scale human clinical trials for Angelica alone.
